Tea time

The birthdays never end.

No how many times I tell myself to actually plan these cards beforehand, I never do that. I just start working, get panicked because I have no idea what I'm doing and start adding things to save the card somehow. In the end it starts looking quite nice, but I can't stop wondering how it would have looked like if I had planned everything first.

Right now I can only post this photo of an own card that I was working on Friday  Sadly, I didn't take photo of it when it was finished so I guess you can only imagine what it looked like.

Skull of moose

Because sometimes you have to draw skulls. Reference used (and still I managed to screw up those horns. Whatever).

And for those people who prefer animals with flesh and skin, here's a lion. It was a birthday card for my dad.

AB: Year of the Dragon

To celebrate Rovio's newest animated short, I will upload here an Angry Birds themed card. I made it on my last day at Rovio. Well, not literally my "last" day, I still work there but.. err.. anyway!

I was planning to upload this card on the same day when it was made but I decided to wait. The card was heavily influenced by the animated short that we were working on that time, so I thought it would be better to let Rovio first upload their animation and after that put this card here.

Normally I don't make huge colour corrections for these cards, but here I had to make Yellow's feathers and White's eyebrows and hair more visible. I knew I shouldn't have put so dark grass behind White. It should have been a little bit lighter but it was too late in that point. I seriously should plan the colour palettes first before making these cards.

 Oh, yeah! The animated short!

I made the storyboard and some clean-up for mouth animation.

A gift

One of my friends is a huge fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Since we see so rarely I decided to make something My Little Pony-related for her as a gift. Her favorite pony is Rainbow Dash so it was obvious to make a "card" of that character.

This card is actually very old. It was made on August, if I remember right. I'm very aware that the character doesn't really look exactly like Rainbow Dash but back then when I made this I wasn't so familiar with that show or the characters. Now I would probably make a better one but I think this looks nice enough.

I think I'm slowly getting better at these.

I still haven't found a style that pleases me. The parrot is too complicated and the lion has way too much similarities with Brittney Lee's artwork (she's amazing, I''m telling you!). Let's see what I can do next time.

Coloured paper

I noticed long time ago that I have large amount of multi coloured paper pads. I got them probably five years ago from my father but I never found any use for them. After staring at that pile for a while, I had to do something with them. And this is what I did:

 Incredibly simple work. Not my cup of tea but it was good enough for first try.

 I wanted to try something more detailed but ended doing this mess. The colours are insane because surprisingly there wasn't as many colours as I wanted.

I realised at this point how important is to plan all the layers when you are working with paper. The shadows give so much life so you better use them well. Next time I will be better!

And of course I had to do two business cards. Sizes are 9 cm x 4 cm if I remember correctly. However, the owl is made with markers.

It was fun to work on these but you seriously have to plan how you are going to build the card and also prepare to work all day.

Felines

Because we all like big cats! Sort of.

A birthday card for my classmate. I tried my best to get the colours right but they still differ from the actual card. Oh well.
