Mean giraffes and happy parrots

I read Katie's blog (her comics are great!) and apparently there was a day called "World wide sketch crawl" day. And no one told me about it.

Sketches from my previous sketchbook. Yes, I got a new one.

Something is going on between those two.

There was a commercial brake on TV and I thought I could draw some people. It was a mistake.

 I drew some giraffes. THRICE.

These are the most colourful pages in my sketchbook. And pretty childish too. I used reference for the parrots on the right. I used this and this.

Red pandas

You know what? I can't draw red pandas. But I'm trying!

Some weird drawings. At first I wanted just to show the best drawings, but I thought it would be good for you to see some horrible sketches so that you can compare them.

The shape of the head and the muzzle are challenging. The nose stands out too clearly, it shouldn't be so visible.

Scary red pandaaaaa... He is going to eat your souls or something creepy like that.

Puppet test

So, now I have an account on Vimeo and I have uploaded one animation test there. It's puppet animation. You can watch it here.

The moose puppet in the video was build by me with a little help from my teacher. It is my first puppet that I have ever made. It doesn't really look like a moose (looks more likea a crossbreed between a bear and a manatee with horns) but at least it moves well.

The fur is made of ordinary shower towel. The head and horns are made of Efaplast Light modelling clay, and painted with acrylics. The hooves are made of milliput and also painted with acrylics. Inside the puppet there is wire and plastic foam.

Just fooling around a little bit. :)

The legs bend quite nicely. The jaw, eyes and the ears also move.

Bears

I planned to upload here one animation test but I had some problems with uploading. I'll try again tomorrow.

In the meantime, you can stare some bears. But if you don't live in a forest or next to a zoo, you can stare these bear sketches.

Some of them are quite nice and some of them are.. umm..good examples how not to draw bear's face. Still working on it.

 Don't you find it annoying when you cand draw something incredibly well when you are not thinking about it? I do.

When I drew this, it was the greatest idea I ever had. Then I lost my interest and left the bear without legs. How cruel.

Oh my.. the use of textures.. oh, no.

 I really, really should stop using unnecessary textures in my artwork. But I just can't!

Somehow this sketch has more appeal than the final work.

Sweet cartoon villains, Part 1

I'm having so much trouble with animating right.. So here you go, some fanart this time.

I frickin' love Rataxes. He is one the funniest and sympathetic characters in children's cartoon. And he is voiced by Kari Hietalahti in Finnish dub! One of my favorite actors!

This fanart is also some sort of a "thank you" card for my friend. Thanks to her, I had a chance to see the Babar cartoon again and see how charming show it really is. She also introduced me again to Alfred J. Kwak series but I'll talk about that next time.
